Today I needed to get into the studio and play. I needed to stretch those wings, flex those muscles, remember how it feels to experiment and the joy of the serendipitous. Like an excitable scientist in their lab I mixed, for the first time in my life, some indigo and while it brewed up I rushed around grabbing old scraps of vintage linen sheets, lace, pillow slips and wrapped, pinned and bundled them.
Dipped them and rinsed them...
and now they are all hanging in the studio drying.
In my enthusiasm I mixed the entire stock solution and not wanting it to go to waste I cut some papers up too. Different thicknesses, different types of paper, some wetted, some dry. I also dipped some blank cards I've had for ages, but not done anything with...
I prefer these to the fabrics. Maybe it's just because I'm missing the warmth of summer and these remind me so much of the sea. None of this will be wasted, I guarantee.
